The Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) implementation working group on sustainable and efficient energy use in industry (IWG-Industry) annual event is on 27 May 2026.

The SET-IndEU project is pleased to invite you to register for the 2026 annual event of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET Plan) implementation working group on sustainable and efficient energy use in industry (IWG-Industry), 'Integrating industrial electrification in the energy system and supporting its deployment in all European regions'.

The event will take place on 27 May 2026, 14:00-18:00 in Brussels, Belgium, preceded by the A.SPIRE stakeholders' open session, during which the new Vision and Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for the successor (2028-2032) of the Processes4Planet public-private partnership, currently implemented within the Horizon Europe framework, will be presented.

It will be organised in a hybrid format, with the possibility to attend remotely. Further details will be shared with registered participants.

Industrial efficiency, competitiveness and decarbonisation remain central to the European Union’s energy and industrial policy agenda. For energy intensive industries, achieving climate neutrality while remaining competitive requires not only technological innovation, but also effective system integration and replication of proven solutions across regions and sectors.

The 2026 annual event of the SET Plan IWG-Industry is organised in cooperation with A.SPIRE and back-to-back with its general assembly. The event will be developed in dialogue with ongoing LIFE and Horizon Europe projects, as well as energy networks such as FEDARENE and EnR, and will bring together technology developers, industrial stakeholders, research organisations, regional and national energy agencies and policy representatives.

The event pursues three objectives:

  1. To showcase technological solutions already available or close to deployment;
  2. To discuss research priorities and system-level challenges linked to industrial electrification and its integration into the energy system;
  3. To identify practical pathways for dissemination and replication of innovative solutions across industrial sectors and European regions.

The event will consist of two sessions.

The first session will focus on technological pathways already available or close to deployment, including electrification of melting processes, renewable and electric steam generation, industrial heat pumps, and the reuse and upgrading of industrial waste heat, with attention to system integration and demand flexibility.

The second session will address dissemination and replication, exploring how EU-funded projects can translate results into standardised procedures and practical guidance for industry, and how they could be effectively disseminated through regional and national energy agencies and their existing support schemes and practices, ensuring structured transfer to companies.

We will conclude with key takeaways and forward-looking considerations for IWG-Industry, identifying priorities for future research and next steps to support industrial decarbonisation in Europe.
