Smartflow has been released by Energy Web to enable enterprises to launch their web3 solution on the Energy Web X parachain.
Smartflow, offered as an ‘as-a-service’ product, is designed to enable enterprise customers to easily configure and deploy custom business logic using decentralised networks of ‘worker nodes’.
The solution comprises a no-code infrastructure to build and integrate custom worker node workflows with existing data sources and APIs in minutes.
The worker nodes ingest the data, perform application-specific computational work on the data and publish the results for verification.

The worker nodes are connected to and secured by the Energy Web X parachain, a new blockchain on the Polkadot network.
“As long-time Energy Web supporters, we are excited by the decentralised approach to multi-party computation provided by SmartFlow,” comments Etienne Gehain, New Digital Solutions Director at Engie.
“It is a digital tool that provides a new kind of trust layer in business relations based on shared information. We are eager to discover how it can be integrated into our processes, and what kind of value it can create,”.
Energy Web states that given the regulated nature of the energy industry and growing calls for more transparency on sustainability data, worker nodes are uniquely positioned to create value for energy companies because of the zero-trust relationships they unlock.
With the worker nodes, no central entity has access to the underlying data and the work conducted by the nodes can be independently verified without needing to trust a single centralised entity or server.
Use cases that have emerged for Smartflow and worker nodes include matching granular energy consumption from buildings with energy produced by individual renewable energy power plants and balancing the grid using fleets of distributed solar systems and batteries.
Another is verifying the carbon intensity of sustainable aviation fuel.
The technology has been developed and is currently configured to support Energy Web’s member energy companies but is applicable for enterprises in any industry where exchange and processing of sensitive data between companies is required to create business value.
