SUSTENANCE delivers concepts for carbon neutral energy communities
The outcomes and key recommendations of the SUSTENANCE project for accelerating the energy transition are presented in this final results video.

The outcomes and key recommendations of the SUSTENANCE project for accelerating the energy transition are presented in this final results video.
SUSTENANCE, a jointly funded action coordinated by Aalborg University in Denmark and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in India, was launched in 2021 to last 42 months.
It developed solutions for the decarbonisation of local energy systems through the optimal, smart integration of renewable energy technologies, including photovoltaics, heat pumps, electric vehicles and energy storage, as well as water pumps and wind turbines in India.
The impact of SUSTENANCE focused on four main areas, of which the first was to set up validated solutions for decarbonised local energy systems.
The next focused on user involvement, while the third was to validate the safe operation of the local energy system integrating heat, electricity and transportation.
Finally the fourth was related to benchmarking the technical solutions and business models for the developed systems, to ensure tjeir widest exploitation.
The solutions were verified in six demonstration sites – three in the European Union and three at different locations in India.
Watch the video to learn about the highlights from the six project demonstrators.
This international project involved 21 partners from three EU countries and India and received funding from both the European Commission and the Indian government.
