In an interview with ENODA’s Founder and Chief Technology & Product Officer, Andrew Scobie, he unpacks a future energy system enabled by a first-of-its-kind grid technology.

According to Scobie, Enoda ENSEMBLE™ is an embedded hardware platform that can coordinate power at the lowest social marginal cost.

While a net zero 2050 is possible, to get there, we need to completely reimagine our energy system with decentralised grid technologies, says Scobie.

He notes: "If we want clean energy that's cheap and reliable, and to avoid the kinds of problems that South Africa has recently had in poor energy supply, we need to be able to stabilise that system while decarbonising generation through renewables."

Enoda ENSEMBLE™ is a protocol for the coordination of distributed assets across an energy system. If the sector transitions away from traditional generation, Scobie stresses that "we have to have a system [Ensemble] that coordinates a distributed set of assets across the grid, whether they're generators, dispatchable consumers, or grid infrastructure itself , like Prime Exchangers."
