Vestas secures order for 148MW Canadian wind project
Vestas has received a 140MW order to power the Halkirk II wind project owned by Capital Power in Alberta| Canada.

Vestas has received an order to power the Halkirk II wind project owned by Capital Power in Alberta, Canada.
The order consists of 31 V150-4.5 MW wind turbines.
The order includes supply, delivery, and commissioning of the turbines, as well as a 10-year service agreement to ensure optimised performance of the asset.
Steve Owens, senior vice president, construction and engineering for Capital Power commented: “We’re excited to once again partner with Vestas for the supply of wind turbine technology for our Halkirk II wind project..."

The Halkirk II wind project is a 148MW onshore wind project and will be located on approximately 17,000 acres of privately owned land in Paintearth, Alberta. The project will generate enough power to meet the annual electrical needs of 63,000 Alberta homes.
Capital Power has also entered into a 23 year clean electricity supply agreement with Public Services and Procurement Canada which will see the Halkirk II project supplying 250 000MWh to all federal government buildings in Alberta.
“We’re thrilled to partner again with Capital Power to expand their wind energy portfolios in Canada...” said Laura Beane, president of Vestas North America.
“The 4MW platform is ideally suited for Alberta’s wind environment and our strong service operations will ensure Capital Power’s projects operate at full capacity,” added Beane.
Canada is suited for wind energy because of its diverse geography and the wind energy market size is expected to grow from 16.70GW in 2023 to 25.50GW by 2028. Wind power in Canada is reported to make up 3.5% of electricity generation, making it the region's second-most important renewable energy source, with Alberta being a provincial leader in wind power capacity.
According to Vestas, turbine delivery is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2024 with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter 2024.
