Waste-to-hydrogen firm looks to AI to maximise efficiency
Waste-to-hydrogen firm SGH2 Energy will integrate ABB's AI and digital solutions to make their operations more sustainable and efficient.

Waste-to-hydrogen firm SGH2 Energy has expanded a partnership with ABB to integrate AI and digital solutions to make their operations more sustainable and efficient.
SGH2 Energy uses a patented Solena Plasma Enhanced Gasification (SPEG) technology to produce green hydrogen from waste such as plastics or tyres.
Their waste-to-hydrogen process extracts all carbon from the waste feedstock, with the end result being high-purity hydrogen and a small amount of biogenic carbon dioxide, which is not additive to greenhouse gas emissions.
According to SGH2 Energy, integrating digital capabilities into its automation and infrastructure would enhance efficiency and predictive maintenance, as well as streamline asset management.

As part of the agreement, SGH2 will explore harnessing ABB’s Ability Genix to leverage industrial analytics and AI. Ability Genix will help unlock industrial data to maximise efficiency of SGH2's C.nH₂ and hydrogen production facilities, which in turn will further drive down costs.
SGH2 claims that its levelised cost of hydrogen is three times lower than electrolytic-based hydrogen, as their solution utilises significantly less power, land, and water resources.
Unlike green hydrogen production from electrolysis with intermittent renewable energy, the SPEG process operates on a year-round base load capacity, and therefore can produce hydrogen at scale more reliably.
SGH2 Energy Global Corp. originally Global Plasma Systems, was founded by Dr Robert Do, a biophysicist, medical doctor and entrepreneur and Dr Salvador Camacho, also known as “the father of plasma technology,” due to developing the high-temperature plasma torch to test heat shields at NASA.
