What's special about LoRaWAN when it comes to water meters?
Diehl Metering recently developed a LoRaWAN® version of its flagship HYDRUS 2.0 ultrasonic domestic water meter.

LoRaWAN® radio technology has the distinctive feature of enabling bidirectional communication. While it has been incorporated into connected water meters for several years, this characteristic opens up new applications in leak detection and water network monitoring.
This inspired Diehl Metering to recently develop a LoRaWAN® version of its flagship HYDRUS 2.0 ultrasonic domestic water meter.
LoRaWAN: The HYDRUS 2.0 smart water meter
Already featuring IZAR, OMS standard and mioty® connectivity, the accurate and ultra-robust HYDRUS 2.0 smart water meters is now available with LoRaWAN® technology.
What can this technology bring to a connected water network? Thanks to bi-directionality, operations such as clock synchronization or alarm reconfiguration can be carried out automatically. These operations are essential for analyzing historical data – unlocking possibilities such as leak detection based on night-time consumption.
In addition to these functions, creating digital twins is now just a click away! Paired with Meter Data Management (MDM) software, meter configurations can be remotely and effortlessly transmitted, eliminating manual adjustments.
The possibilities a digital twin offers are numerous and go beyond simply finding leaks. It can be used to size the network, with a view of future works, to assess risks, and even for predictive maintenance if it is fed with sufficient data.
While the choice of connectivity technology is crucial to the success of a digitalization project, the quality of the metering data is also fundamental. What happens to your analysis if the data you rely on is incorrect?
The HYDRUS 2.0 smart water meter has succeeded since its first version's launch in 2009, with 8 million units sold worldwide. Its proven ultrasonic technology offers incredible accuracy and exceptional measurement stability, whatever the measurement conditions.
Unaffected by limescale, sand, air interference, the intense heat of the Middle East, and the humidity of installations in pits or deep cellars, the HYDRUS 2.0 Domestic measures every drop of water with great consistency, and over a long period.
By completing its range of HYDRUS 2.0 smart water meters, Diehl Metering is continuing its strategy of developing multi-connectivity solutions. Whatever radio technology a utility has opted for, a solution exists to enable it to implement the applications essential to the success of its water conservation project.
