The energy transition in Vestland

Vestland is at the forefront of Norway’s energy transition, aiming to become a leading producer of renewable energy by leveraging its abundant natural resources – hydropower, wind, ocean energy, and bioenergy – and future-proofing its energy security.

Through its regional renewable energy plan (2023–2035), Vestland seeks to ensure power balance, secure energy supply, and develop robust infrastructure to support local industries and green innovation.

Green Region Vestland plays a pivotal role in this transformation. As a partnership between Vestland County and Innovation Norway, it coordinates the collaboration between 19 industrial, energy and biomass hubs. These hubs promote industrial symbiosis, shared infrastructure, and joint solutions to common challenges such as energy access, capital, competence, and land availability.

By connecting businesses, research, and public actors, Green Region Vestland is driving Vestland toward becoming a competitive, sustainable, and innovative green energy region.

Our stories from Vestland

Energy security lessons from Norway

Enlit brought together Norway’s politicians, armed forces and industry experts in Bergen to discover what the country can teach Europe about energy security. We learned that “it takes a whole society to defend ourselves”,  how decentralisation is critical, and why “the green transition is still on in Europe” because of energy sovereignty.

Energy sector meetup in Bergen

Enlit on the Road, in partnership with the Vestland County Council and Green Region Vestland, hosted a one-day conference to explore energy security and sustainability. Using practical solutions and real-world examples, the speakers explored various topics such as generation mix optimisation, the green transformation of industry, and how we can achieve Northern European energy security.
