Grid planning in times of changing business models
Gianluigi Migliavacca, project manager at RSE, about the main challenges utilities are facing in grid planning.
Areti Ntaradimou, Editor at Smart Energy International and Content Director at Enlit Europe, speaks with Gianluigi Migliavacca, project manager at RSE, about the main challenges utilities are facing in grid planning.
Migliavacca said that the enforcement of ambitious decarbonisation targets in Europe is leading to an increase in electrification and energy demand in the region. As a result, utilities need to integrate more renewables. This is challenging grid operations due to the fluctuating nature of renewable energy.
However, Migliavacca, added that virtual power plants and flexibility will enable energy firms to address the challenges. Developing and implementing consumer-centric business cases will also help simplify the energy transition and grid planning for changing business models.
