Networked Energy Services Corporation has completed its Smart Metering and the Smart Energy Transition in the New Normal report

Networked Energy Services Corporation has completed its industry survey related to the impact of COVID-19 on smart metering and smart grid projects and the associated analysis and report, “Smart Metering and the Smart Energy Transition in the New Normal.”
COVID-19 has changed the world in many ways. The health, social and working practice impacts dominate our view of the New Normal, but what does it mean to the smart energy transition, which has been disrupted.
To find out, Networked Energy Services (NES) conducted a survey to better understand the impact from the COVID-19 situation on Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and specifically its effect on the Smart Energy Transition.
Based on the results, the impacts of COVID-19 have been both positive and negative on the Smart Energy Transition, with the balance being towards the positive.
The report, which is available at https://NES Report summaries the results of a dedicated survey and presents a perspective on how smart grid and smart metering solution providers can help the energy industry and consumers to mitigate the risks and ameliorate the impacts of similar pandemics in the future.

Ben Gardner, president of The Northeast Group, has offered his insight on this issue. “Utilities (and hopefully regulators) are now seeing first-hand the importance of smart metering deployments as the pandemic and ensuing lockdown reinforce the need for improved automation and resiliency.”
David Thomson, NES President & CEO, adds: “Of course, the health and well-being of our customers, partners, employees, and communities is our top priority.
“We decided to conduct this investigation to determine how we can better support DSOs, and the report identified many interesting benefits that became even more valuable during the current pandemic situation. It does not seem that this situation will end quickly but NES has a portfolio of solutions to help DSOs manage the New Normal and prepare for the possibility of future pandemics.”
