The ECLIPSE project is centred on innovating and integrating advanced technologies to enhance energy efficiency, sustainability and digital transformation within Europe’s energy systems.

A Digital Europe Programme Project coordinated by ETRA I+D, and encompassing a consortium of 23 European partners, ECLIPSE is a cutting-edge initiative focused on transforming the European energy landscape over a two-year period that began in September 2024.

ECLIPSE aims to address critical challenges in energy management, promote renewable energy sources, and ensure reliable, resilient and efficient energy systems through the implementation of collaborative, scalable solutions.

Common European Reference Framework

Digital technologies for energy monitoring hold significant potential to increase energy efficiency, prevent grid imbalances, and avoid selective power cuts. The ECLIPSE project aims to implement and demonstrate the Common European Reference Framework (CERF) for energy consumer applications across the EU.

This initiative focuses on enabling voluntary energy consumption reductions and load shifting through user-friendly applications that provide actionable information on energy savings, CO2 reduction, and financial incentives. ECLIPSE will define rules and conditions for developing new applications and improving existing ones, empowering consumers with the tools needed for sustainable energy behavior.

Deployed in 17 EU countries, the project will enhance grid stability and resilience, ensuring interoperability with third-party systems while respecting current regulatory frameworks and competitive offerings.

A collaborative structure

The unique collaborative structure of the project, which draws on the expertise of partners across Europe to tackle a wide range of energy challenges, is emphasised. By bringing together specialists from different sectors, ECLIPSE fosters a multidisciplinary approach that not only advances technological development but also creates impactful, real-world solutions tailored to the evolving needs of European communities.

These solutions are designed to support Europe’s transition to a more sustainable energy future, aligning with the EU’s broader goals for decarbonisation and digital innovation in the energy sector.

Through innovative projects like ECLIPSE, the project consortium seeks to make a lasting impact on Europe’s energy systems, enabling smarter, greener and more interconnected networks that respond to the needs of today while building a resilient framework for tomorrow.
