Tackling Europe’s LV network challenges
Distribution system operators (DSOs) are pivotal to the energy transition, but poor network visibility is slowing progress, says VisNet.
As Europe’s energy systems evolve, distribution system operators (DSOs) face growing challenges managing low-voltage networks. VisNet is helping utilities gain visibility, actionable insights, and collaborative intelligence to tackle these demands head-on.
In an interview, VisNet experts Ana Duran, Monitoring Product Manager, and Michael De Vivo, Head of Europe, unpack key areas that can support DSOs in responding effectively.
Acknowledging that many DSOs do not have the necessary information to address growing LV network challenges, Duran reassures that the technology is available. With VisNet monitoring devices, DSOs can gain the actionable insights they need.
By combining raw data with actionable insights, DSOs can make faster, more informed decisions and improve overall network reliability.
De Vivo explains: "We helped DNOs in the UK to use the data captured at the edge and have actionable insight to help them to become better, faster and cheaper in the way they use the grids.
“We understood how DSOs are using the data and actually valuing them to the operational impact.”
He added that they have designed a new initiative called EURO LENS, which is enabling shared insight into evolving European network challenges.
"For us knowledge sharing is everything, we wanted to connect DSOs around the same tables, open the book and share what the challenges are," De Vivo said.
As Europe’s energy transition accelerates, DSOs need scalable, data-driven solutions to manage constraints, plan investment efficiently, and enhance network resilience.
VisNet’s modular approach ensures that solutions are adaptable to different countries and evolving network needs, helping DSOs prepare for future challenges.
