Iberdrola sells French wind portfolio to Technique Solaire

Iberdrola France has announced the sale of its French onshore wind portfolio to renewable energy group Technique Solaire.

The portfolio includes 118MW of operational wind capacity plus a pipeline of 639MW of onshore wind and solar PV.

This acquisition marks Technique Solaire’s entry into the onshore wind sector: as its name suggests, the company has until how had a focus on solar installations. It has a sister company, Technique Biogaz, which builds biogas plants.

The onshore wind deal was announced in November 2025. Thomas de Moussac, co-founder and development director at Technique Solaire, said entering the wind sector was "a strategic milestone. After our successes in solar and biogas, this transaction gives us immediate access to a significant operational portfolio, with repowering potential and a robust development pipeline.”

Finance director Lionel Themine added: “This first acquisition in wind reflects our strategy to diversify our growth drivers, both internal and external. It is part of our long-term financial trajectory: our group combines organic growth with targeted acquisitions of advanced solar or wind projects, contributing sustainably to the energy transition.”

For Spanish energy giant Iberdrola, this transaction forms part of its strategy to focus investments on regulated networks or generation with long-term contracts, especially within the US and UK. It is Iberdrola’s fifth transaction this year.

Headwinds in France

France has a growing onshore wind sector, having installed 573MW of new onshore wind capacity in the first half of 2024, bringing its total onshore capacity to 22.3GW.

However, recent amendments to the country’s Multiannual Energy Programme (PPE3), released in February 2026, show an enhanced focus on nuclear energy at the cost of renewables. 
 
The PPE is a 10-year framework that guides energy policy through 2035 and PPE 3 sets a target of 35-40GW of onshore wind capacity by 2035, compared to a previous objective of 45GW.

It’s less ambitious than earlier drafts in terms of large-scale greenfield expansion and gives priority to repowering existing wind farms.
