Energy storage optimisation expert enters Polish market

Capalo AI has received an electricity trading licence in Poland allowing the company to trade and optimise battery energy storage and hybrid assets.

Energy optimisation specialist Capalo AI has entered the Polish energy market after receiving an electricity trading licence from the country's Energy Regulatory Office (URE).

The licence allows the company to trade and optimise battery energy storage and hybrid assets directly across Poland's wholesale electricity markets. Capalo AI says that for asset owners, this translates into a single, accountable partner responsible for turning stored energy into revenue – from dispatch decisions all the way to market execution. 

The firm has already been optimising the operation of a hybrid photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) asset in partnership with Polish energy supplier R.Power since the beginning of April 2026, with AARX Energy providing local market access, trading execution and balancing services as the third-party Balance Responsible Party in Poland.

The concept of hybridising PV power plants with battery energy storage creates value not only for the asset owner but also for the power system as a whole. Instead of curtailing renewable production, clean energy can be stored and delivered when it is most valuable for both the market and the grid.

Commenting on Capalo AI’s expansion into this area, Henri Taskinen, co-founder and CEO, said: “Poland has one of the fastest-growing pipelines for BESS in Europe and these assets will soon play a crucial role in providing flexibility to the electricity system. Receiving our trading licence from URE marks an important milestone for our operations in the country.”

Taskinen noted the value already seen in Capalo AI’s existing work with R.Power – where smart optimisation of the hybrid asset has increased capture prices and reduced curtailment. “This is only the beginning of what we can achieve as we grow our presence in Poland, being able to support asset owners across the full value chain," he asserted.
